A name picture in real Nastaliq

A name written in Urdu calligraphy makes a warm, personal profile picture, and it is one of the most searched Urdu design requests. Most “name art” sites, though, use fonts with broken joins, plaster large watermarks over the result, or ask you to upload your name to a server.

This tool sets your name in genuine Nastaliq, the flowing, slanted style Urdu is traditionally written in, using two free professional typefaces:

    • Noto Nastaliq Urdu: elegant and classical, with tall, graceful strokes.
    • Gulzar: a newer Nastaliq with bolder weight that stays clear on small phone screens.

Each of the six style presets combines a font, a colour palette, a background pattern and a frame. Every element is drawn in your browser, so the result is sharp at full 1080 × 1080 resolution.

    Worked examples

English name Urdu spelling Suggested style
    Ayesha عائشہ Rose, Circle frame
Muhammad Ali محمد علی Royal, Circle frame
    Hamza حمزہ Gold night, Corners
Zainab زینب Ink on paper, Double line
Bilal Ahmed بلال + second line احمد Sky, Square line

Names with letters that have dots above and below, such as زینب, look especially good in Nastaliq because the dots sit in a graceful diagonal rather than a flat line.

    Getting the Urdu spelling right

English spellings of Pakistani names vary a lot (Mohammad, Muhammad and Muhammed are the same name), and the Urdu spelling often contains letters English cannot show. A few patterns to know:

    • ع (ain) appears in many names: علی (Ali), عمر (Umar), عائشہ (Ayesha).
    • ح and ہ are both “h”: حسن (Hassan) uses ح, while ہما (Huma) uses ہ.
    • ث، س and ص are all “s”: ثناء (Sana), سارہ (Sara), صبا (Saba).
    • ز، ذ، ض and ظ can all be “z”: زینب (Zainab), ذیشان (Zeeshan).
    • Many girls’ names end in ہ: فاطمہ، حفصہ، سارہ.

If you are unsure, ask an older family member how the name is written on an Urdu document such as a nikah nama.

    Common problems and fixes

My name is cut off in the circle

Choose the Circle frame, which keeps the name inside the safe area, or lower the Name size slider. Then check with “Preview as a round profile picture”.

    Letters look disconnected

You may have typed spaces inside the name, or pasted text from InPage that is not Unicode yet. Remove extra spaces, or convert the text first with the InPage to Unicode converter.

    The font did not change

Some presets set their own font. Pick the font after choosing the preset, and it will stay until you choose another preset.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I write my name in Urdu?
Type the first few letters of your name in English in the search box. More than 200 common Pakistani names are built in, such as Muhammad (محمد), Fatima (فاطمہ) and Bilal (بلال). If yours is not listed, type it in the Urdu box. Your keyboard types Urdu phonetically there, or you can open the on-screen keyboard.
Will my name fit inside a round WhatsApp profile photo?
Yes. Apps crop profile pictures to a circle, so the name is kept inside the central safe area, and the Circle frame sits within it. Turn on “Preview as a round profile picture” to see exactly how it will look.
Why are there different spellings of some names?
Many names have more than one accepted Urdu spelling, such as عائشہ and عائشا. The suggestions use the most common spelling. If your family writes it differently, edit the Urdu box. It is your name, so your spelling wins.
Can I add a surname or title?
Yes. Use the “Second line” box for a surname, a title such as ڈاکٹر, or a short phrase. It appears below the name in a smaller size and the accent colour.
    Is the calligraphy hand-drawn?
No. It is set in Noto Nastaliq Urdu or Gulzar, two professionally designed Nastaliq typefaces released under the free SIL Open Font License, so you can use the image anywhere, including for business pages.
    Is my name stored anywhere?
No. The image is made in your browser and downloaded straight to your device. The name list is part of the page and is never sent anywhere.
